We have been learning about static and current electricity in science. Today we used what we have learned about circuits to make quizzes or pictures with moving or light up parts. We will upload some videos of our projects working shortly.

Today we took part in a Maths Trail around the school grounds. We got a chance to practise all the maths skills we've been learning this year. Later in the week we will design our own Maths Trail. Today we had our third session of Bootcamp with Edel and Peter. We had a great time. We've had a busy Engineer's Week, first we made scissor lifts with Lego, then visited the library to talk to an engineer and on Friday we presented our Engineering Projects to the class. The children could choose from a boat, bridge or plane. They did a super job (along with help from Mums and Dads!) and we loved getting to see everyone's finished projects. Here are just a few pictures of us presenting and testing them. We are learning basic coding in class. If you would like to continue working on it at home, you can use the online editor at the scratch website or download the programme to work offline. Parents you can find out all about it by clicking on the info for parents link on the following page https://scratch.mit.edu/about As part of engineering week we worked with Bricks 4 Kids to create motorised scissor lifts with Lego. We had a great time with Linda and the Bricks4Kids team today. A big thanks to the Board of Management for funding our workshop today. Today is Shrove Tuesday and some of the parents came in to help us make pancakes. We had a great time seeing who could flip the pancake the highest or with the most style! Only a few ended up on our heads! A big thank you to all the Mums who helped us. We are learning about the persuasive genre in English writing this term. We worked in pairs to invent a new product, design a magazine ad and script a 30 second radio ad. We recorded some of them today. We hope you like them.
We are learning about Native Americans in History. The children chose an animal to represent them. We are going to make totem poles. Sa rang Gaeilge inniú bhí na páistí ag siopadóireacht i bhur siopaí féin. Maith sibh! We are learning about sound in science. We have been talking about how we hear sounds and how sounds travel through materials. Today we made string telephones to test if we could hear our partner's voice through a solid material (the string) better than through the air at the same distance. |
