Phew! We made it! Today is our last day in Fourth Class!!!!
It's also Mrs McDonald's last day 😭 and we have been practising our goodbye song for weeks now and it sounds great...much better than the teacher's one!

Some of our class were doing some pavement pictures at lunch time We had a visit from Christine the Scientist who taught us about acids and bases and we did some experiments. We're working on a surprise goodbye song for Mrs McDonald and are writing our own version of the cup song. If anyone would like to learn the cup rhythm then you can look at this video to practise. I'll post the lyrics and music later in the week when we've finalised the lyrics. A big congratulations to Fourth Class, and all the pupils in school, as we found out this week that we have won Discover Primary Science Plaque of STEM Excellence. The children in Fourth Class were thrilled that all their hard work in STEM has been recognised and rewarded. We will be receiving our plaque shortly to add to the 'Hall of STEM Fame'.
If you would like to see exactly how we impressed the judges this year have a look on the Science Award section of the school website. Today was our last computer class with Rudi. The children have been working hard on researching a topic online, copy and pasting information into Word where they have assessed and edited it for inclusion in their Powerpoints. They then edited their slides - added more or less information, formatted the backgrounds and added images, changed the transitions and animations and finally reviewed their presentation.
Today some of the children got a chance to use their Powerpoints to make a short presentation to the class. The audience listened carefully and gave excellent feedback to their classmates on what they did well and how they could improve it. Well done guys! Today we had a visit from the GAA to talk about Féile na nGael 2017 which is being played in Wexford, Carlow and Kilkenny. Aoibheann from our class played a lovely Irish tune on her violin for our visitors. Maith Thú Aoibheann!
Today was our Guitar Recital, a big thanks to all the grown ups who could make it, we hope you liked it! Yesterday we brought the Senior Infants outside to complete a Maths Trail we had designed. We came up with the questions in class and each pair manned an area with a question for the Infants to answer on their answer page. They had to sort bean bags, count cars, measure how many steps wide the goals were and much more. The Seniors were super and had lots of fun! Today was our last day of guitar lessons. We have done so well during the last few weeks. Here are some clios of us practising earlier today. Today we had a visit from a magician who taught us about recycling using magic tricks and puppets. We are still scratching our heads trying to figure out some of the tricks!
Today we used our maths skills to make plastic from milk in Science.
We had to measure 300ml of milk and 30ml vinegar and check the temperature of the milk (40 - 50'C) when it was heated. We mixed them together and strained off the curds and used this to make our plastic shapes. We all thought it looked and smelled disgusting but enjoyed it anyway! We had great fun in bootcamp today doing over and under relays and plating tails. Thanks Edel and Peter! |
